East Asia, China, Qing Dynasty to Republic era, ca. late 19th to 20th century CE. A hand-carved nephrite jade amulet crafted in the form of an abstract zoomorphic figure, commonly referred to as a “pig dragon” (zhu long). Featuring a limbless, coiled body, with a prominent central aperture and a smaller suspension hole drilled through the reverse side of the head, enabling it to be worn as an amulet. The term “pig dragon” describes a specific type of jade carving that originated in the Neolithic period. Size: 2.6″ L x 1.25″ W (6.6 cm x 3.2 cm)
Condition: Intact and great condition.
Provenance: private New Orleans, Louisiana, USA collection, acquired 1990s in the Caribbean
