East Asia, China, Qing Dynasty to Republic era, ca. 19th to 20th century CE. A carved nephrite jade pendant in the form of a stylized zoomorph known as a “pig-dragon,” surmounted by an abstract creature resembling a crouching bird or insect. The main body is shaped into an almost circular, C-shaped form, drilled for suspension. This style draws inspiration from similar jade artifacts excavated from Neolithic sites. The term “pig-dragon” (zhu long in Chinese) refers to a specific jade form, particularly associated with Hongshan culture, thought to hold ritual or symbolic significance. Often interpreted as a mythical hybrid, these forms likely represented spiritual beliefs central to early Chinese culture. Size: 1.75″ L x 0.5″ W x 2.75″ H (4.4 cm x 1.3 cm x 7 cm)

Condition: Intact and excellent.
