Lot 188, Auction 4/20/2026: 4 Chinese Qing Dynasty Blue on White Porcelain Dishes
$455.00
In stock
East Asia, China, Qing Dynasty, ca. 19th century CE. A charming set of four blue-on-white porcelain dishes, each hand-painted in cobalt beneath a clear glaze. The shallow basins feature traditional Chinese motifs – two with lush floral sprays of peonies and chrysanthemums, one with lotus blooms, and one with a tree – all bordered by delicate foliate patterns extending toward their gently sloped rims. Each dish displays a warm light-brown edge, known as a “dressed rim” – a hallmark of antique Chinese export wares. This brown wash was deliberately applied after glazing to strengthen the thin rim, stabilize the fragile edge, and reduce the risk of chipping. Size: 8.75″ Diameter x 1″ H (22.2 cm x 2.5 cm)
Condition: One has a repair with 2 large pieces reattached with a brown adhesive visible and a thick coating to the underside of rim to reinforce this area. Small chip to the rim of one, and a larger chip / loss to the rim of another. Glazing and firing Imperfections such as pitting throughout.
Provenance: ex-T.F. Holy Lands collection, formed since the 1960s
