Native American, Southwestern United States, Mesa Verde region, Anasazi (Ancestral Puebloan), ca. 1100 to 1300 CE. A hand-built pottery mug of petite size, perhaps for a child. The flat-bottomed vessel features a thick handle and tapered walls decorated with black-painted linear motifs. Pottery played an important role in Anasazi culture and included both utilitarian and decorative pieces that could be traded with neighboring communities for food or other goods.
