Native American, Southwestern United States, Mesa Verde region, Anasazi (Ancestral Puebloan), ca. 1100 to 1300 CE. A hand-built pottery mug of petite size, perhaps for a child. The flat-bottomed vessel features a thick handle and tapered walls decorated with black-painted linear motifs. Pottery played an important role in Anasazi culture and included both utilitarian and decorative pieces that could be traded with neighboring communities for food or other goods. Size: 3.625″ L x 3″ W x 2.4″ H (9.2 cm x 7.6 cm x 6.1 cm)

Condition: Professional repair and restoration, with resurfacing and overpainting along new material and break lines. Minor abrasions and nicks, with light fading to original pigment, otherwise in nice condition. Great exterior motifs. Previous inventory label beneath base.
