Native American, Southwestern United States, Arizona / New Mexico, Anasazi (Ancestral Pueblo) & Hohokam, ca. 950 to 1450 CE. A pair of pottery effigies, a small Anasazi mouse like creature that is also a miniature vessel, and a Hohokam bird amulet or lug fragment. Both are painted with black linear and checkered patterning, the lines radiating out from the central opening of the hollow mouse. The bird may have attached to the rim or side of a vessel like a lug. Size of mouse: 3″ L x 1.5″ W x 1.4″ H (7.6 cm x 3.8 cm x 3.6 cm); bird: 1.75″ L x 1.25″ W (4.4 cm x 3.2 cm)

Condition: Mouse is repaired and restored from several pieces, with infill, new material on tail, and overpainting on the exterior. Bird has abrasions and craquelure to pigment, but otherwise intact.
