Lot 159, Auction 4/26/2024: Prehistoric Anasazi Kana’a Black on White Bowl

Native American, Southwestern USA, Anasazi (Ancestral Puebloan), Kana’a, Pueblo I, ca. 800 to 1000 CE. A gorgeous pottery bowl formed via the coil-and-scrape technique with an overall wheat hue decorated within the basin with black-painted linear motifs. The dark bands bend constantly until they reach the tightly coiled basin center, and bands of stippling fill in some of the wider areas. Size: 8.2″ L x 7.8″ W x 3.375″ H (20.8 cm x 19.8 cm x 8.6 cm)

Condition: Professional repair and restoration, with resurfacing and overpainting along new material and break lines. Abrasions and light fading to original pigment, otherwise in nice condition. Nice motif within basin.

Provenance: private New Jersey, USA collection, acquired from the Glen Canyon Trading Post in 1971
