Lot 153, Auction 5/11/2024: Luristan Copper Spiked War Axe Head
$765.00
In stock
Ancient Near East, Luristan, ca. 1000 CE. A fine copper pick axe of elegant form with a sophisticated design to the tip and a flared back behind a rimmed socket. The long horizontal blade is balanced by a vertical blade on the butt end and a central spike. The design of similar axe heads in museum collections are often attributed to either Mesopotamia / Sumer or Luristan cultures possibly due to their geographical proximity, cultural influences, overall limited knowledge of Luristan culture, and the greater name recognition of Mesopotamia. Size: 6.5″ L x 1″ W x 2.75″ H (16.5 cm x 2.5 cm x 7 cm)
Condition: Surface abrasions and pitting, otherwise intact and very good. Nice green and blue patina and oxidation.
