Ancient Near East, Northwestern Iran, Luristan, ca. 1200 to 800 BCE. A set of 2 cast-bronze axe heads, each of squat form with socketing shafts bearing either 1 or 2 vertically projecting fins. The first axe head features a set of incised striations along the upper ovoid rim, and a dense protrusion emanates from the butt end of each weapon. Each weapon features layers of naturally-occurring patina in hues of green and brown. Size of largest: 4″ L x 0.8″ W x 2.3″ H (10.2 cm x 2 cm x 5.8 cm)

Condition: Each piece with light abrasions, small nicks, and minor earthen deposits, otherwise intact and very good. Great patina throughout.

Provenance: private Everett, Massachusetts, USA collection; ex-Broukal collection, United Kingdom, formed 1950s, thence by descent
