Lot 155, Auction 4/12/2024: Luristan Bronze Short Sword w/ Pommel Tang

Ancient Near East, Northwestern Iran, Luristan, ca. 1200 to 800 BCE. A cast-bronze short sword of elongated petaloid form bearing a thick midrib, sharpened edges, and a rounded point. The integral handle tapers near the midsection before flaring back out near the bottom, and the exposed pommel tang once held a decorative pommel. Size: 17.625″ L x 1.875″ W (44.8 cm x 4.8 cm)

Condition: Original pommel missing as shown. Slight bending to overall form, with nicks to blade edges, and light abrasions, otherwise intact and very good. Great patina throughout.

Provenance: private Everett, Massachusetts, USA collection, purchased September 18, 2014
