Plinio Codognato (Italian, 1878-1940). “Fiat 509″ lithograph in colors, 1925. Signed in the plate at lower left. Publishers: G. Ricordi & Co. An original large-scale automobile advertisement poster for Fiat cars, artwork by Plinio Codognato, printed by Ricordi, this powerful composition features a muscular centaur hoisting a red Fiat car above the Fiat factory toward the sky above, with the centaur’s red complexion cleverly matching the vibrant red Fiat. Plinio Codognato designed approximately 150 posters for commercial products, theatrical productions, and sporting events. He is best known for his works for Fiat, Ansaldo, Pirelli, Cinzano and Campari as well as car racing posters. A striking piece that showcases one of the best Italian graphic artists of the 20th century, mounted under glass in a custom frame. Condition: Signed in the plate at lower left. Artwork is laid on board, float mounted under plexiglass, in a custom frame and has not been examined outside the frame. The poster presents with expected age wear, losses to peripheries, small holes at peripheries, a few tears/losses, fold marks, and staining as shown. Normal surface scuffs to frame. Fit with suspension wire.
