Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Chihuahua region, Casas Grandes (Paquime) culture, ca. 1200 to 1450 CE. A charming pottery jar boasting a fascinating anthropomorphic yet owl-like form with slit-form eyes, a beak-like nose, and a petite mouth, all surrounded by a sweeping, raised brow. Size: 5.4″ L x 5.8″ W x 6.9″ H (13.7 cm x 14.7 cm x 17.5 cm)
Condition: A few stable hairline fissures to top of head, as well as some areas of chipping, nicks, and abrasions. Some fire-darkening to surface, but otherwise, intact and excellent with mineral deposits to areas.
Provenance: private Reinsmoen collection, Clear Lake, Iowa, USA, acquired through descent from Robert Anderson, acquired prior to 2000
