Pre-Columbian, Northern Mexico, Chihuahua region, Casas Grandes culture, Ramos Polychrome type, ca. 1150 to 1450 CE. A wonderful and vibrant hand-built Ramos Polychrome pottery storage jar with painted motifs of geometric stepped, cross hatched, and curvilinear shapes and a pair of abstract parrot heads in red. The bulbous beaks and beady circular eyes create a wild expression on these charming birds. The vessel rests on a rounded base, the walls swelling up and outward to a slightly flared lip. The surface is slipped in a creamy beige then adorned in the black and russet red hues. A captivating example of the Ramos Polychrome type of pottery! Size: 6.01″ Diameter x 5.8″ H (15.3 cm x 14.7 cm)

Condition: Professional repair and restoration, with resurfacing and overpainting along new material and break lines. Abrasions and fading to original pigment in scattered areas, otherwise in nice condition. Great parrot motif! Previous inventory label beneath base.
