Ancient Near East, Mesopotamia, Sumer, ca. 3000 BCE. A hand-carved black stone cylinder seal of petite size bearing deeply incised striations that form a series of standing quadruped creatures, perhaps deer. Each animal bears a stocky body, slender legs, and large eyes behind a long snout. Custom putty rollout included. Size: 0.84″ L x 0.45″ W x 0.46″ H (2.1 cm x 1.1 cm x 1.2 cm)

Condition: Possible retooling to some incised decorations, otherwise intact and very good. Nice imagery present.

Provenance: private Las Vegas, Nevada, USA collection; acquired from Bruce P. Ferrini, Medieval & Renaissance Illuminated Manuscripts, Akron, Ohio, USA, March 30, 1999
