United States, Eagle’s Nest Mine, Placer County, California, ca. early 21st century for its discovery, hundreds of millions of years old for its creation. Another stunning example of gold as it is sometimes found if you are very fortunate! This is a large chunk of white quartz to which emerges beautiful gold crystals. Because the quartz is the majority of this example it is impossible to determine the weight of the gold, but this is worthy of any collection of gems or minerals! Size: 2″ W x 1″ H (5.1 cm x 2.5 cm)
This piece has been tested using XRF technology. The gold has been determined to be approximately 88% pure gold along with 11% silver (silver in gold ore happens in almost all instances). One reason that ancient gold objects always contain silver is because there was smelting technology of the times could not completely separate the two.
