In stock

Near East, Northern Turkey, Black Sea region, ca. millions of years ago. A collection of 5 gorgeous, banded agate stones collected from the Black Sea region, each polished in areas to highlight the astounding striations and colors. The largest has a cavity filled with quartz crystals known as a vug, and the swirling vermillion red and lilac hues surrounding the piece are other worldly. In ancient times agate was used in jewelry and believed to contain healing properties that could protect the wearer from danger. Agate is primarily formed within cavities from volcanic lava flows and metamorphic rocks, and the variations in layers will often result in banding – as seen here. Size of largest: 7″ L x 4″ W x 4.75″ H (17.8 cm x 10.2 cm x 12.1 cm)

Condition: Cut and polished with raw areas. Some minor abrasions and fissures on polished areas. Gorgeous coloration and banding.

Provenance: private Van Buskirk collection, Tucson, Arizona USA
