$2,340.00

In stock

Eastern Europe, Russia, Saratov, Volga River, Cretaceous period, Aptian Age, ca. 121 to 113 million years ago. A rare fossilized heteromorph ammonite, identified as Audouliceras matherioanum. This distinctive shell displays the species’ characteristic partially uncoiled form, with a long ribbed shaft that curves upward and terminates in a tight spiral coil. The chamber opening turns inward toward the coil, emphasizing the unusual hooked silhouette that sets heteromorph ammonites apart from more conventionally planispiral forms. The shell not only fossilized, but also retained portions of its original aragonite layer, creating a pearly iridescent surface that shimmers in the light. The ammonite has been carefully prepared and remains partially embedded in its natural stone matrix, which provides stable support and visual contrast to the lustrous shell. Size: 9.25″ L x 5.5″ W x 6″ H (23.5 cm x 14 cm x 15.2 cm)

Condition: Professionally prepared, and partially embedded in its original stone matrix, which provides stable support. Stable fissures and striations, with losses to shell exterior.

Provenance: private Berthoud, Colorado, USA collection
