Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A set of 9 hand-carved Spondylus shell pendants exhibiting hues of orange, yellow, and white. Five of the pendants are carved into rough rectangular shapes, 3 depict abstract zoomorphic creatures, and 1 shows a human face at the end of a tapered, incised body. Pendants like these were typically worn as status symbols by those in the upper classes. Size (largest shell): 2.80″ L x 1.67″ W x 0.67″ H (7.1 cm x 4.2 cm x 1.7 cm); (display case): 12.25″ L x 8.25″ W x 0.875″ H (31.1 cm x 21 cm x 2.2 cm)
Condition: Each with minor nicks, pitting, and abrasions, with softening to some finer details, and light earthen deposits, otherwise in great condition. Nice shell color remaining.
