$2,040.00

In stock

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, Protoclassic Period, ca. 100 BCE to 250 CE. A hand-built and highly burnished pottery figure of a semi-nude woman seated with legs tucked beneath a skirt. The beige-hued figure holds her right arm out in a gesture of welcoming while holding a petite olla in her left hand; her slight forward lean suggests she is telling a story. Almond-shaped eyes, a prominent nose, expressive lips, and cupped ears create the feminine countenance, all beneath a simple cap that rests low on the forehead. Size: 8″ L x 11.5″ W x 16.3″ H (20.3 cm x 29.2 cm x 41.4 cm)

Condition: Professional repair to right arm, and restoration to left shoulder, outer three-quarters of left breast and part of bowl held in left hand. Abrasions and chipping to surface pigment, with light earthen deposits, otherwise in great condition. Nice figural presentation!

Provenance: private Reinsmoen collection, Clear Lake, Iowa, USA, acquired through descent from Robert Anderson, acquired prior to 2000
