Southeast Asia, Borneo, Dayak Peoples, early to mid-20th century CE. A haunting wooden mask, its surface aged to a deep brown patina with areas of lighter wear that highlight its age and ritual use. The mask presents an elongated human visage with eyes, a narrow ridge nose, and a small slitted mouth. Such masks were traditionally worn or displayed in initiation rites, agricultural festivals, and ceremonies invoking ancestral or protective spirits. Comes on a custom stand for display. Size: 10.25″ L x 5.75″ W (26 cm x 14.6 cm); 12.25″ H (31.1 cm) on included custom stand.
Condition: Old losses to the chin and neck as shown. Chip and gouge to forehead. Stable hairline fissure to the right side of suspension hole.
