Pre-Columbian, Mexico & Peru, ca. 200 BCE to 1532 CE. A collection of ancient Andean textiles and amulets from various Pre-Columbian cultures in Central / South America – three made from pottery, and 4 from bone, tooth, and stone. Of note, the Chancay face textile was made in contemporary times, using ancient textiles, a common practice for sale items. The carvings have pierced holes for suspension and were probably worn as pendants or charms. Size of fringed textile: 5.5″ L x 1.5″ W (14 cm x 3.8 cm); case: 12.25″ L x 8.25″ W (31.1 cm x 21 cm)
Condition: Textile with face is made from ancient material but constructed in modern times, embroidered and sewn in modern times. Textile fringe tassel appears to be entirely ancient. Chips and losses to the amulets, especially the stone / bone pieces, and all 4 are repaired with adhesive with visible break lines. Displayed in modern case.
