A large-scale figurative, expressionist painting by contemporary Indonesian artist Diyano Purwadi. The composition features an ensemble of nude figures with elongated bodies, dramatic poses, and mask-like visages, presented in a rhythmic arrangement across the colossal canvas. Purwadi has brought together a crowd of sitting, standing, and reclining figures, painted in a rich palette of teal, plum, amber, cobalt, citrine and carnelian hues complemented by warm earth tones, all pushed close to the picture plane so as to confront the viewer in a manner that heightens the emotional pull and cultural depth of the painting. About the Artist: “Diyano Purwadi b.1971 is a contemporary artist based in Bali, Indonesia. Purwadi bases his works on social, cultural and political phenomena in which he observes around himself. His emphatic paintings strive to convey a sense of honesty with emphasis on the many languages of the human body and mind. He has had several solo-exhibitions in Indonesia and is included in Imago mundi’s publication ‘Indonesia: Island of Imagination’. His 2010 exhibition ‘Song of the Hut’ in Sika Gallery Ubud, presents the overarching socio-political concerns Purwadi engenders within his artworks with focus on the migrant communities of Indonesia. Condition: Signed and dated by the artist at lower left. Craquelure throughout and stretcher marks as shown. Surface wear with some abrasions as shown. Mounted in a custom black frame. Frame has a few nicks/chips to the finish but otherwise is intact and fit with suspension wire and metal loops.
