Apache Lidded Basket w/ Butterflies, Stars, & Birds

Native American, Southwestern United States, Arizona, Apache, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. A hand-woven fiber basket of spherical form with a protruding foot as well as a form-fitting lid with a knob handle on top. The beige-ground vessel features a faint register of abstract avian forms that are much more colorful on the interior. Hues of pink, dark gray, and dark green create registers of (from top to bottom) butterflies, right-facing chickens or roosters, stars, and perhaps leaves with hints of purple along the bottom. Size (w/ lid): 11.38″ Diameter x 7.4″ H (28.9 cm x 18.8 cm)

Condition: Slight bending to overall form of vessel and lid, with heavy fading to exterior coloration, and loosening to some fibers in scattered areas, otherwise intact and very good. Wonderful pigment remaining along interior surfaces.
