Ancient Mediterranean, Cyprus, ca. 2500 to 1900 BCE; Ancient Near East / Central Asia, Bronze to Iron Age, ca. 2000 to 600 BCE. A remarkable pair of copper weapons, a Cypriot dagger blade and an ancient spear tip, each displaying a slender form with a thick mid-rib and a round-section tang. The spear is barbed, while the dagger features rounded shoulders that are pierced in 2 places for attaching to a hilt. Size of larger (barbed): 14″ L x 2″ W (35.6 cm x 5.1 cm)
Condition: Chips and nicks to the peripheries of both blades. The blade with rounded shoulders has been polished in areas in recent times. Both have green patina and mineral deposits.
Provenance: private Everett, Massachusetts, USA collection, purchased from TimeLine Auctions, Essex, United Kingdom, February 22, 2018, lots 2040 and 2076; ex-property of a West London gentleman, and previously in an important weapons collection formed in the 1980s and early 1990s
