Africa, Morocco or Algeria, Berber culture, ca. 19th century CE. A hand-built pottery amphora of sophisticated style bearing twin handles with thumb rests protruding from the upper arch as well as ample, hand-painted linear and crosshatched motifs across the bulging body. The pigment was most likely either espresso-brown or vibrant orange. Size: 7.5″ L x 5.5″ W x 12.1″ H (19 cm x 14 cm x 30.7 cm)

Condition: Repair and restoration to one handle, with resurfacing and overpainting along new material and break lines. Abrasions and scattered pitting, with extensive fading to original pigment, and scattered earthen deposits, otherwise in nice condition. Great size and presentation. Probe holes on underside of foot and beneath handle.
