Western Europe, Great Britain, ca. 1882 or later CE. A framed British needlepoint honoring the Derbyshire Regiment & Sherwood Foresters, army infantry regiments, respectively formed in 1823 and 1881. A list of places the regiments saw action and the year are stitched on one flag: “Egypt Alma / 1882 / Inkerman / Sevastopol / Central India.” The Battle of the Alma and the cities of Inkerman and Sevastopol were significant during the Crimean War. Size of needlepoint: 21″ L x 19.5″ W (53.3 cm x 49.5 cm); frame: 26″ L x 24.75″ W (66 cm x 62.9 cm)
Condition: Needlepoint has some fading but intact and excellent. Framed in a wood and glass frame. Wood frame is older / antique with scuffs to front and wear to verso.
