West Africa, Nigeria, Ogoni people, ca. mid 20th century CE. A hand-carved wooden mask of a simple face with round eyes and mouth and scarification marks at the temples and on the forehead. A large, rectangular crest rises from the top of the head. Size: 4.4″ W x 8.25″ H (11.2 cm x 21 cm)

Condition: Wear to pigment as shown, with some chips/surface cracks from the wood.

Provenance: ex Adeon Gallery, Chicago, Illinois, USA, acquired prior to 1970
