Mayan & Mixtec Stone Macrame Necklace- Lot 330, Auction 7/30/2018

Pre-Columbian, Mayan Territories, Classic Period, ca. 250 to 900 CE (round beads) and Valley of Mexico, Mixtec people, ca. 1200 to 1500 CE (pendant). A group of ten round jadeite beads and a single grey-green large anthropomorphic pendant or amulet, strung together with modern black macrame. The jadeite beads are pretty, ranging from a paler white-green to a deep green with mica inclusions that sparkle. The pendant depicts a standing figure, possibly one wearing a large mask, and has a perforation drilled through its back for attachment. Length of strand: 20″ L (50.8 cm); size of pendant: 2″ L x .875″ W (5.1 cm x 2.2 cm)

Condition: Beads show light signs of wear and have patina from age and handling.
