Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, ca. 300 BCE to 900 CE. A collection of ancient shell and rock crystal beads, with a pearlescent, large shell amulet in the form of a bird’s head, on a modern string with a modern clasp. Hundreds of red and pink shell seed beads, interspersed with longer, cylindrical rock crystal beads, form the chain; four abstract shell pendants are also integrated into the chain above the main pendant. Size of amulet: 1.75″ W x 1.2″ H (4.4 cm x 3 cm); length of chain: 23″ L (58.4 cm)

Condition: Small areas of wear on the beads. Modern stringing.

Provenance: private Andrade collection New York, USA, acquired 1960s; ex Knoedler & Company
