Lot of 3 Chancay Pottery Molds- Lot 346, Auction 4/29/2019

Sold

Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Chancay, ca. 1000 to 1300 CE. A fine set of three hand-built terracotta molds with conical handles and wide bodies. Each mold has a carved-out face which, when applied to soft pottery material, would create a molded item. The smallest mold creates a face with bulbous eyes and impressed pupils. The medium-sized mold creates a simple, ovoid form with eight raised segments. The largest mold creates a standing figure with attenuated legs, petite arms, and a pinched head. Size: 2.375″ L x 1.875″ W (6 cm x 4.8 cm).

Condition: All items have minor abrasions and light encrustations, otherwise intact and very good. Light earthen deposits throughout.

Provenance: private Allison collection, Kent, Washington, USA, inherited in the mid-1970s

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
