Pre-Columbian, Central Mexico, Aztec empire, ca. 1300 to 1500 CE. A wonderful redware incensario of clever design comprised of an openwork olla with a flared rim upon a pair of rounded rattle legs at one end and a long handle whose end coils upward into a bird-head form. The bird has a very long beak, a huge eye, and a crest. In excellent condition for its age! Size: 9″ L x 4.4″ W x 4.7″ H (22.9 cm x 11.2 cm x 11.9 cm)
Condition: Intact with tiny chips from painted surface, especially around the rim. Nice manganese deposits on surface.
