19th C. Tintype + Ambrotype – Leather Cases- Lot 576, Auction 5/31/2019

North America, ca. 1840 to 1900 CE. Two antique photographs. The larger photo, a tintype photograph, shows a bearded man with his arm resting upon his knee and his hand placed inside the fold of his jacket. The other photo, an ambrotype, portrays a gentle-faced woman with her hands resting together in her lap and her dark hair placed up in a bonnet. Both photos are framed by embossed brass panels inside folding leather cases with red velvet interiors and protective glass panes. The leather frame with the woman locks with a release-button clasp, and that of the man securely closes with two exterior metal hook/loop combos. Size of man’s case: 0.5″ L x 3.125″ W x 3.75″ H (1.3 cm x 7.9 cm x 9.5 cm); size of woman’s frame: 0.5″ L x 2.375″ W x 3″ H (1.3 cm x 6 cm x 7.6 cm).

Condition: Both photos have some wear and fading. Both photo cases have wear and fading to leather, but both are still functional and intact.
