North America, United States, ca. 19th century CE. A lovely pair of antique photographs, one daguerreotype and one ambrotype, both in Union leather cases. The first photograph is a daguerreotype of a young man with a large goatee, a dark suit and vest combo, and cleanly parted hair. Set behind an arched brass plate, it is protected by a glass panel and an embossed brass perimeter frame, all inside of a velvet-lined, leather-wrapped wooden frame. The second photograph is an ambrotype of a seated man and woman with dark clothing, muted expressions, presented holding hands. The photograph is set against a finely-detailed embossed brass panel with a glass cover and a brass perimeter frame, all inside a felt-lined, leather-wrapped wooden case. A wonderful ensemble for any antique photograph enthusiast. Size (single man): 3.125″ W x 3.625″ H (7.9 cm x 9.2 cm); size (seated couple): 3.25″ W x 3.625″ H (8.3 cm x 9.2 cm).

Condition: Single man photo has minor fading and age marks to picture and interior brass frame, scuffs to glass panel, tarnish to exterior brass perimeter, with wear and scuffs to exterior leather cover; photo case has separated at spine. Seated couple photo has wear to picture and tarnishing to exterior brass perimeter, with wear and losses to leather cover; photograph case has separated at spine.
