Near Choice Luristani Bronze Bull Figurine- Lot 301, Auction 3/25/2019

Ancient Near East, northwestern Iran, Luristan, ca. 1200 to 800 BCE. A cast bronze miniature figurine of a long-horned zebu bull, laterally perforated for suspension. The humped zebu bull was a recurring theme on the decorative and ritual arts from this civilization, most likely symbolizing the leader of the herd, known for strength and virility. Size: 1.375″ L x 1.25″ H (3.5 cm x 3.2 cm)

Condition: Only minute casting flaws, a tiny area of encrustation to rear leg. Otherwise excellent with rich green and deep russet patina.
