Greek Terracotta Seated Goddess- Lot 27, Auction 12/25/2019

Sold

Greece, Hellenistic Period, ca. 3rd to 1st century BCE. A hollow-molded terracotta female goddess figure seated on an integral throne. She hold her arms gently atop her thighs and wears an ankle-length himation. Her sensitive visage is composed of faded features such as ovoid eyes, a petite nose, and thin lips, all framed by neatly-arranged bangs and capped with a veil. Covered in pale-orange slip, this is a charming example of fine Hellenistic pottery! Size: 1.875″ W x 4.25″ H (4.8 cm x 10.8 cm).

Condition: Repaired from multiple large pieces, with small losses and light adhesive residue along break lines. Minor nicks to base, body, and head, with softening to some finer details. Light earthen deposits throughout.

Provenance: private East Coast, USA collection
