Western Greece, Rhodes, Archaic period, ca. 600 BCE. A ceramic maskette applique in the form of a woman’s face, with tall headdress and naturalistic face. The Archaic period saw a shift to more realistic representations of human figures from the highly stylized Geometric period that came before it. Size: 1.2″ W x 1.75″ H (3 cm x 4.4 cm); 4.05″ H (10.3 cm) on included custom stand.

Condition: Deep groove scratched into headdress. Remaining traces of pigment, with form still clear.
