Ancient Central Asian Bronze Knife Blade- Lot 93, Auction 8/26/2019

Sold

Central Asia, late 2nd to 1st millennium BCE. A fine example of a cast bronze knife from this region, with one edge curved and sharpened, the other slightly wider. One end has a small, elongated loop for attachment to a larger handle, cast as a single piece with the blade. The production of bronze weapons in this area – which encompasses a huge geographical extent, stretching from the Caspian Sea to Mongolia – began to intensify around 2000 BCE. Knives like this one are found in the graves of warriors alongside axes, arrowheads, and spearpoints. This example has a particularly beautiful blue-green patina. Size: 0.75″ W x 7.1″ H (1.9 cm x 18 cm)

Condition: Wear along blade edge indicating that this blade was sharpened (in fact it is still quite sharp!). Really beautiful blue-green patina.

Provenance: private Orange County, California, USA collection
