Central Asia / Iran, Teke (Tekke), ca. 19th century CE. A massive openwork pectoral ornament made of silver, fire-gilded and chased, with a gorgeous symmetrical form. Abstract ram’s head terminals rise from five points on the upper part of the main pendant, while nine long silver chains with teardrop-shaped silver pendants hanging from them fall down from the lower part of the pendant. A massive ovoid carnelian is the centerpiece of the pendant, and is surrounded by four other ovoid carnelians. Twenty-four small, round, turquoise beads are inlaid around the central carnelian and between the other carnelians. A thick, braided silver chain is strung through the top ram’s head; this chain has a clasp and hook at its terminals to allow the pendant to be worn. Size of pendant: 6.7″ W x 6.5″ H (17 cm x 16.5 cm); length with chain and dangling pendants extended: 18.85″ H (47.9 cm); All silver is approximately 85% pure.; Total weight: 241.3 grams

Condition: Rich patina on all metal surfaces. Slight wear to carnelian and light encrustation in the turquoise inlays. Overall in excellent condition.
