Tall Chontal Greenstone Anthropomorphic Figure

Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Chontal, ca. 800 to 400 BCE. An impressive anthropomorphic figure with arms held to sides of torso, hands with defined fingers over his abdominal region, and parted legs indicated by pecked cavities, a stylized head with the facial features beautifully treated as sunken depressions with a characteristic brow ridge and rectangular ears, in pale green andesite with beige inclusions and areas of white caliche. Overall, a Chontal stone figure of museum quality, so elegantly delineated with openwork and finer details such as those remarkable fingered hands and that expressive visage. Custom stand. Condition: A bit of roughness to left shoulder and top of head with deep caliche deposits there and a few other places, else quite excellent.
