East Asia, China, Qing Dynasty, ca. 19th to early 20th century CE. A group of three small containers comprising two snuff bottles and a carved ivory box. One is a translucent yellow glass bottle of rounded form, retaining white cosmetic or lime residue within. Another is a greenish stone snuff bottle decorated in low relief with a Buddha figure. The third is a circular elephant ivory box with a deeply carved lid featuring dragons chasing the “flaming pearl,” and the interior showing traces of red pigment. Size of yellow bottle: 1.8″ W x 2″ H (4.6 cm x 5.1 cm)

Condition: All three pieces show age-related wear consistent with handling and use. The yellow glass bottle has minor surface scratches and powder within. The stone snuff bottle has a chip to the foot and rim opening. The ivory box is repaired, the base is possibly not original and glued into place, with some gaps between wall and base. Lid has stable pressure fissures and red ink stains.
