Lot 305a, Auction 3/19/2026: Colonial Peruvian Wood Kero Cup & Copper Mug
$390.00
In stock
North & South America, Peru and United States (or Europe), ca. 18th to 19th century CE. This grouping includes an antique wooden kero-style drinking cup, made in Peru likely just a couple centuries after the Spanish conquest, with incised bands encircling the exterior; a label on the base from the Instituto Nacional de Cultura, Peru confirms it was reviewed for export and determined not to be protected national heritage. The lot also includes a 19th century hammered copper mug or measure cup, possibly American or European in origin, with a rolled rim and simple strap handle. Size of kero: 4.3″ W x 6.25″ H (10.9 cm x 15.9 cm)
Condition: Wood kero has a stable pressure fissure radiating from the rim, and nicks and scratches. Nice patina and mineral buildup on interior. “Instituto Nacional de Cultura” sticker on the base. Copper cup has stable pressure tears along the rim, but otherwise intact.
Provenance: ex-private collection, Fairhaven, Massachusetts, USA, collected from 2000 to 2015
