$455.00
In stock
Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico to Guatemala, Maya, Late Classic Period, ca. 550 to 900 CE. A group of seven Maya polished stone celts of varying size and form, each carefully shaped with tapered bodies and smoothly ground surfaces. Celts of this type served as woodworking tools and were also valued as symbolic objects associated with authority, agriculture, and ritual life in the Maya world. The varied stones and subtle differences in form illustrate the skilled lapidary techniques used by Maya artisans in producing durable and functional ground stone implements.
