$1,040.00

In stock

East Asia, Japan, ca. mid to late 20th century CE. A white silk uchikake wedding kimono adorned with elaborate metallic embroidery in yellow gold and warm orange tones, depicting auspicious motifs of peacocks, flowering plants, and ceremonial flower carts (hanaguruma). The soft white ground, reminiscent of eggshell, is covered with dense gold and bronze threadwork, illustrating the flowers of the four seasons – plum, peony, chrysanthemum, maple, and pine – symbolizing abundance and fertility. The interior lining is white with light padding throughout, culminating in a thickened hem finished with gold ribbon piping, while the long trailing form and extended sleeves underscore its ceremonial purpose. Size with sleeves stretched out: 74″ L x 51″ W (188 cm x 129.5 cm); sleeve: 41″ L (104.1 cm)

Condition: Creases from storage. Very light areas of discoloration to the bottom of hem when examined closely, and this uchikake appears very lightly worn and excellent vintage condition. Wearable!

Provenance: private Great Barrington, Massachusetts, USA collection
