Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima culture, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A lively pair of Colima pottery standing figures modeled with strong limbs and expressive features, each wearing a simple loincloth tied at the waist. The larger figure is adorned with a prominent necklace and headdress, while the smaller figure raises both arms behind the head in a relaxed pose. Their bold forms and animated postures exemplify the naturalistic yet stylized character of Colima ceramic sculpture associated with shaft tomb traditions. Size of larger: 4.3″ W x 6.5″ H (10.9 cm x 16.5 cm)
Condition: Larger is missing proper right foot, has chipping to nose, and has been repaired with restoration over some break lines, but other visible in areas. More petite figure is intact. Both have age-expected surface wear. Scattered earthen and mineral deposits throughout.
