Lot 163a, Auction 4/3/2026: 18th C. Chinese Qing Blue Splashed Pottery Vessel

$975.00

In stock

East / Southeastern Asia, China, Qing dynasty, ca. 18th to 19th century CE. A blue-splashed export ware ginger or wine jar with a softly rounded body and lid. The pale glaze is animated by fluid cobalt washes that pool and feather across the surface. The shoulder is set with four small strap handles. Pieces of this type were widely traded from the southeastern mainland to the Philippines and likely continued along the Acapulco trade route. The form and decoration reflect the adaptability of Chinese kilns to overseas markets and taste. Size: 8.5″ W x 9.5″ H (21.6 cm x 24.1 cm)

Condition: The lid is a slightly different white tone than the body. It fits well and appears period, though it may not be original to the jar. Fissures radiate from the base on both the interior and exterior, yet the vessel remains stable. There are chips and losses to the rim and lid. Craquelure is present throughout, with clear signs of age.

Provenance: private collection of S. Saunders, Nogales Arizona, USA collection
