Europe, World War I period, ca. 1914 to 1918 CE. A poignant set of three trench art crucifixes, each ingeniously fashioned from spent brass bullet casings and centered with a circular plaque repurposed from a German military belt buckle inscribed “GOTT MIT UNS” (“God with us”), with cast figures of Christ affixed to the vertical shafts. Size of largest: 3.3″ W x 6.4″ H (8.4 cm x 16.3 cm); 7.4″ H (18.8 cm) on included custom stand.

Condition: One is removable from base. All have weathering and abrasions commensurate with age. Otherwise, good remaining detail and rich patinas throughout.

Provenance: ex-private collection, Fairhaven, Massachusetts, USA, collected from 2010 to 2015
