Europe, World War I period, ca. 1914 to 1918. A poignant group of three brass trench art crucifixes fashioned from spent munitions, including two standing examples and a delicate wall-hanging inscribed “Reims Martyre,” evoking the devastation of the cathedral city under German bombardment, while the largest piece, associated with Verdun, recalls one of the war’s most grueling and symbolic battles, where endurance and sacrifice became defining marks of the French national memory. Size of largest (Verdun): 2.9″ W x 7.3″ H (7.4 cm x 18.5 cm)

Condition: Bending to right arm of Verdun crucifix. All have light surface wear, as shown. Otherwise, all are intact and very nice with good detail and light patina.

Provenance: ex-private collection, Fairhaven, Massachusetts, USA, collected from 2010 to 2015
