Southeast Asia, Indonesia, ca. 20th century CE. A graceful brass sculpture depicting the Buddhist goddess Tara seated in a relaxed posture upon a lotus throne, framed by an ornate circular halo. Tara, revered across Buddhist traditions as a compassionate savior and protector, is shown adorned with an elaborate crown, jewelry, and flowing garments that emphasize her divine elegance. One hand is raised in a gesture of reassurance while the other holds a lotus stem, a symbol of purity and spiritual awakening. The figure rests on a tiered pedestal decorated with lotus motifs, reinforcing the iconography of enlightenment and transcendence central to Buddhist visual culture. The surrounding halo, edged with small flame-like elements, creates a radiant backdrop that highlights the deity’s serene expression and composed presence.
