Lot 128a, Auction 3/19/2026: Moroccan Fossil Ammonite Carving with Orthoceras Shells
$325.00
In stock
North Africa, Morocco, Devonian Period, ca. 419.2 to 358.9 million years ago. A large ammonite-form carving shaped and polished from fossil-rich Moroccan stone, emphasizing the dramatic spiral of the ancient shell. The surface reveals sweeping chamber lines along with visible fossil inclusions, including fragmentary ammonite and orthoceras remains embedded throughout the dark matrix, creating a striking natural pattern within the sculpted form. Size: 17″ Diameter x 4″ W (43.2 cm x 10.2 cm)
Condition: Some remains of shell chambers visible on the surface. Carved and polished stone piece in the form of an ammonite rather than a fully natural fossil specimen. Minor surface abrasions, small chips, and natural inclusions are present throughout.
Provenance: private Colorado, USA collection
