North Africa, Morrocco, Draa Valley region, Lower Ordovician era, ca. 485 to 443 million years ago. A fossilized Asaphellus stubbsi trilobite preserved in a natural stone matrix, showing the classic three-lobed body plan with a raised central axial lobe and broad pleural lobes. The semicircular cephalon shows the glabella and eye positions, followed by a segmented thorax and a rounded pygidium forming the tail shield. Trilobites were marine arthropods that lived along ancient seafloors, and this example preserves the segmented exoskeleton in strong relief. Size of matrix: 7.5″ L x 6″ W (19 cm x 15.2 cm); 7.5″ H (19 cm) on included custom standl; fossil: 4″ L x 4″ W (10.2 cm x 10.2 cm)

Condition: Professionally prepared. Repairs to matrix, with breaklines extending over the fossil. Left side of fossil has losses to surface layers and clear adhesive residue from breakline repair. Species and findsite information written in ink on the verso surface.
