Southeast Asia, Indonesia, Borneo, Sarawak, Iban Dayak peoples, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. An anthropomorphic mask carved from a single block of wood and finished with black and white kaolin pigments, creating a bold contrast across its features. The elongated face, prominent nose, oval eyes, and pierced mouth give it an intense presence, with traces of ritual use evident in the surface wear. Dayak masks such as this were often employed in ceremonies, ancestor veneration, and ritual performances, acting as powerful mediators between the human and spiritual worlds. Mounted on a custom stand, it makes an impressive and evocative display piece. Size: 11″ L x 10″ W (27.9 cm x 25.4 cm); 15.5″ H (39.4 cm) on included custom stand.
Condition: Old loss to interior lower rim and perforation to left side of nose. Stable pressure fissures and abrasions. Fading and losses to pigments. Nice weathered and age appearance.
